Pirate soccer wins 7-0 over Anahuac

The Vidor Pirate varsity soccer team held its first scrimmage of the new season and emerged with a 7-0 win over Anahuac in Vidor Monday. Coach Derek Peveto said, “The 1st half score was 1-0. We made some adjustments and the final score was 7-0 Pirates with the scrimmage win!

The varsity Vidor Pirate basketball team went 3-2 at the Bill Tennison Memorial Basketball Tournament in Orangefield held Thursday- Saturday with the close losses decided by a combined total of just 7 points.

Lady Pirates take second at PNG Tournament

The Vidor Lady Pirates lost to Memorial 43-41 in the championship game of the PNG Tournament Saturday. Earlier in the day they beat PNG 37-36 and are now 10-1 on the season.
Vidor junior Bryce Loftin scored the 1,000th basket of his high school career in Tuesday night’s 64-27 win over Sabine Pass in Pirate Gym. Leading scorers were Bryce Loftin with 22 points, Brayden Root with 8 points and 8 rebounds, and Jose Guerrero-Evans with 7 points and 5 assists. Loftin was recognized with a plaque marking his accomplishment.

The Vidor Lady Pirates improved to 5-0 with a 33-32 win over Orangefield Tuesday at Orangefield. The Lady Pirates trailed the Lady Bobcats most to the game after a brief lead in the first quarter that ended with Vidor trailing 11-6.

Coach’s selections for the 10-4A D1 All-District Football Team have been announced with 17 Vidor Pirates named to the team. Vidor Senior Brayden Root was selected as Utility Player of the Year. Sophomore Orrin Cole was named District Defensive Newcomer of the Year.

The varsity Vidor Pirate basketball team lost a hard fought battle with Hardin Jefferson 57-46 Monday in Vidor but bounced back Tuesday with a win over Buna. “Pirates let one get away. Battled all game with only 8 guys, but made too many mistakes down the stretch,” said Coach Joseph Hoyt.

The Vidor Lady Pirate Basketball team remains undefeated following a 64-19 win over Deweyville Monday at Pirate Gym. Both varsity and junior varsity teams won their games with Deweyville, the junior varsity Lady Pirates won their game 72-3, while the varsity won 64-19.
