The varsity Vidor Pirate basketball team opened their season at home with a 52-46 win over Beaumont Kelly Tuesday night.
A big second quarter erased the Pirates slow start and gave them a lead they never relinquished.
At one point in the first quarter, the Pirates were behind 10-3, but the gap had narrowed to 17-11 by the end of the quarter.
