End of Ike recovery funds shifts Schoolhouse Ditch focus

Funding for Hurricane Ike recovery projects will end December 31, 2018 prompting Vidor City Council to refocus its Schoolhouse Ditch project. Council members were told earlier this year that any work continuing past the December 31 deadline will likely not be paid from the grant funds. That, coupled with an inability to agree to ROW terms with the KCS Railroad and a property owner in South Vidor, led the Vidor City Council to approve suspending further ROW acquisition attempts.

Instead, the project will focus on those improvements likely to be completed by year’s end. With that goal in mind, Vidor City Council will consider awarding a contract (Phase 3) to improve drainage culverts north of Orange Street and South of IH-10 excluding the KCS Railroad culvert.
