Dr. Edith Jane Musson Peacock, 80, of Beaumont, died Friday, September 8, 2023. She was born on August 11, 1943, to Daisy and Glenn Musson, in Port Arthur, Texas.

She attended Stephen F. Austin public school in Port Acres, where she graduated as Valedictorian in 1961. Edith earned both a Bachelor of Arts, and a Master of Arts in History from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. She began her dream of teaching in Port Arthur. Edith later taught in Nederland and Anahuac ISDs; and began teaching and supervising student teachers for the College of Education, Department of C&I, University of Houston Central Campus. In May 1979, Edith earned her Doctor of Education Degree from the University of Houston. She worked for Region V ESC as a Grant Writer and Teacher Education Specialist. Edith was pleased to be a part of the Curriculum and Instruction Department at Vidor ISD. For eight years, she was Principal of Vidor Junior High School; later, she worked as Curriculum Director and as Assistant Superintendent for Instruction.

Edith is married to Dr. Jerry Nelson Peacock and mother to Terry Glenn Whitton of Houston and Janie Elizabeth Peacock of San Leon, Texas. The Peacocks are members of Calvary Baptist Church in Beaumont. She has a brother, Bob Musson of Bentonville, Arkansas; her sisterin- law and brother-inlaw, Betty and Henry Harrison of Tyler; a very special niece, Darlene Musson Sherrod and husband, Mark; grown children, Kayla Sherrod and Matthew Sherrod of Castle Rock, Colorado; and other beloved nieces and nephews too numerous to name.

A graveside service for Dr. Peacock will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3900 Twin City Highway, Groves, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.
