Seniors fall victim to jury duty scam

Sheriff urges citizens to warn their elders, personally

Tuesday evening, the Orange County Sheriff’s office issued a second warning concerning a telephone scam where a person or persons claiming to be a Deputy Sergeant from the Orange County Sheriffs Office called citizens from Orange County and told victims that they were about to be arrested for failing to report for jury duty and that they could prevent their arrest by paying their fine in advance to the scammer using their credit card or gift card number.

Now, in a second warning, the Sheriff’s Office urges all Orange County citizens to personally call their elderly parents, elderly relatives, elderly neighbors and elderly friends to warn them never to give their own financial information to someone over a telephone.
