Thinking on Christ and the true meaning of Christmas

By Capt. Bill Watkins

Matthew: Chapter1 vs 18; Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her way privily.

But while he thought on these things, behold the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

And she shall bring forth a son and thou shalt call his name Jesus for he shall save his people from their sins.

Now all this was done, that it might fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,

Behold a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call him Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

This is it. This is the whole of the Old Testament, being brought down to this point in time. Thousands of years of man’s existence on planet earth spent waiting for the ultimate sacrifice of the son of God to save his children by giving Himself to be sacrificed for their sins and transgressions. This is the Gospel or Good News. Because of sin, man is cursed to die but with the blood of Jesus Christ he is given eternal life. Just think, brother or sister, we all walk around knowing that our days are numbered but mostly we try to work around that knowledge or put it off until it slaps us in the face. But death will come for each and every one of us. What then? We only have to throw our sins upon Jesus Christ and he will give us eternal life.
