Discharge meets TCEQ permit

By George Garza

Treated wastewater being returned to the environment from the Orange County Water Control and Improvement District #1 Wastewater Treatment Plant is now meeting all of the cleanliness criteria required under the discharge permit issued to the District by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

The treatment plant has actually been operating within the TCEQ permit parameters since October 5th, using chlorine to sanitize the water. However, on October 19th the plant’s ultraviolet disinfection unit was brought back on-line which has eliminated the need to add chorine to the treated wastewater before returning it to Tiger Creek.
