Tuesday is Election Day

Seven Texas State Constitutional amendment propositions will be on your ballot when you go vote next Tuesday. Propositions 1 and 6 would provide exemptions from ad valorem taxation of all or part of the market valuation of residence homesteads to disabled veterans and surviving spouses of first responders killed in the line of duty, respectively. Proposition 2 could change how home equity loans would work to include reducing some consumer protections.

Proposition 3 seeks to limit the terms of gubenatorial appointees. Proposition 4 would allow some limitations on state courts in their ability to declare a legislative statute unconstitutional. And Propositions 5 and 7 would expand gambling in Texas. According to Orange County Elections Administrator, Tina Barrow, early voter response in the Constitutional Amendment Election, has been very low so far with only 738 voters casting Early Vote ballots in six days of early voting. She attributes that to low voter interest and so many citizens being overwhelmed with Hurricane Harvey recovery.
