New safety requirement law for Vidor bicycle riders

Vidor bike riders on city streets at twilight or nighttime will need to gear up to meet the requirements of a new city law approved Thursday. Vidor Chief of Police Rod Carroll said the newly revised bike ordinance mirrored state requirements for bicyclists.

From 30 minutes before sunset to 30 minutes after sunrise, bicyclists must display a headlight (white light) on the front of the bike and a red light on the rear while operating the bike on public roadways. In addition, the rider must wear reflective clothing such as a vest or shirt to promote safety and visibility.
