Nelda Stevenson, age 95, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2022, at her home in Vidor, Texas with her family by her side. She was born to Garnet Harry and Golda Christian, February 9, 1927, in Vidor. She was a graduate of Vidor High School, Class of 1944, where she participated in the Athletic Club, Pep Squad, Cheerleading, Band, Choral Club, Basketball, and was a Duchess of Queen of Sports. Nelda married the love of her life, Dr. Wayne M. Stevenson in 1947 and they lived together in Vidor for almost 50 years creating a loving home for their family and contributing to their community. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, the Soiree Dance Club, Red Hat Ladies, the Quilting Ladies and Board of Trustees of the First United Methodist Church, the PTA of Vidor Schools, and served as the First Lady of Vidor during her husband’s tenure as Mayor. Nelda also had many talents and interests including dancing, crocheting, knitting, quilting, sewing, painting, carpentry, genealogy, shopping and traveling the country in their motorhome. Nelda will be forever loved and cherished by the family she leaves behind. She is survived by her five children: Deborah Kelly (John), of Houston; Donald Stevenson, of Vidor; Gayla Coe (Gary), of Beaumont; Reginald Stevenson (Diane), of Vidor; Lyndon Stevenson, of Beaumont; and daughter-in-law Angela Stevenson, of Orange. She is also survived by her ten grandchildren: Kathleen Kelly Ferguson, Lauren Kelly Wasielewski, Allison Kelly, Jeremy Stevenson, Wayne Stevenson II, Davin Simmons, Lyndon Stevenson II, Lindsey Stevenson Minter, Heather Coe Marshall, and Jude Coe, eight great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and nieces Gwen Christian McDonald (Jimmy), Sharon Christian Yeriazarian (Sooren) and their families. Leaving this world, she will be reunited with her husband in heaven and other loved ones preceded in death including her parents, brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Nellie Christian; nephew, Harry Michael Christian; and her granddaughter, Delinah Stevenson. For their service and genuine care, the family sincerely appreciates and gives thanks to Texas Total Care Home Health and ¬¬¬Hospice. In lieu of the usual remembrances, please visit an elderly relative or friend to show your love and appreciation for the beautiful life they have lived and many contributions they have made. Visitation will begin at 1:30 pm and funeral services at 2:30 pm Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor with burial to follow at Restlawn Memorial Park in Vidor.
