American beautyberry (Callicarpa americana) is an amazing nativar (native perennial) shrub which grows up to 8 feet tall and nearly as wide which can thrive in shady areas. Birds enjoy feasting on American beautyberry, which has an added benefit in that it can be made into delicious jelly (image courtesy: gardenerspath.com).
