Quail Populations Recovering, Strongest in Years

AUSTIN —Texas quail hunting season opens Oct. 28, and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) surveys indicate an increased number of bobwhite and scaled quail in the field thanks to a combination of cooler temperatures and spring rainfall during the start of nesting season.

The Vidor Lady Pirate volleyball team finished in second place in district play following Friday’s seeding game at Bridge City. Vidor, Bridge City and Lumberton finished the regular season in a three-way tie.
The Vidor Pirates take the field for the season’s final home game Friday on Senior Night. The Pirates defeated the Huffman Falcons 49-28. The Pirates travel to Splendora Friday for the final regular season game against the Wildcats.

The Young Men’s Business League will celebrate the 45th year of the YMBL Babe Zaharias Memorial Relays on November 7th & 8th. The event will be held at the Beaumont United High School Stadium in Beaumont in cooperation with the Beaumont Independent School District.

A slow start and an early drive that was marred by numerous penalties had the Pirates off their game and playing catch up until late in the fourth quarter as the LCM Bears held off the Vidor Pirates to win the district away game 34-28 in overtime Friday.
