Smiling faces were not hard to find at Friday’s Cops N Kids picnic at Claiborne West Park. Participants and exhibitors displays attracted onlookers with games, crafts and informational pamphlets, swag and hands on displays of equipment used everyday by emergency responders.

DPS Reminds Texans to Plan Now for Hurricane Season

AUSTIN – In support of hurricane preparedness efforts across the state, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reminds Texans to make an emergency plan as hurricane season gets underway. The 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season runs June 1 through November 30.

“Body” in vehicle turns out to be mannequin

VPD officers were scrambling Wednesday morning after the VPS received a call about a possible “dead body” discovered in a towed vehicle. After securing the scene and obtaining a search warrant, it was determined the body was only a mannequin covered with blankets.
