While freezing temperatures are in the forecast for parts of southeast Texas, it doesn’t have to add a chill to customers’ bills. Instead of cranking up the thermostat when the temperatures drop, customers can take some free or lowcost steps to help save energy and money on their utility bill.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has identified the pedestrian who was struck and killed along I-10 on January 18, as 56-year-old Pamela Brown of Orange. According to the DPS crash report, Brown was standing near the center barrier on I-10.

Local residents won’t have to travel to distant locations for services as the WIC program is set to return to Gould Park beginning this week. The Women, Infant and Children’s Nutrition Center (WIC) will return to Vidor February 11 as a mobile site at the Raymond Park beginning at 8 a.m.
With trackhoes that dug it in the background, this exavation on the northwest corner of the campus was a prerequisite for rebuilding on the Oak Forest Elementary campus. When completed, the detention ponds will capture water runoff before it flows to neighboring properties. As an added bonus, Science classes may also use it as an outdoor lab and observation area.

For a while it seemed Mother Nature was not content to have destroyed Oak Forest Elementary with devastating floods, but continued to show malice when construction began on the site elevation as several downpours washed away a week’s worth of site preparation more than once.
