DPS Urges Drivers to Be Aware as School Year Begins

AUSTIN – With the school year beginning in person for many districts across the state, the Texas Department of Public Safety is reminding the public of steps they can take to keep students and staff members safe.

Texas Sales Tax Revenue hits $3.4 Billion in July

(AUSTIN) — Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar today said state sales tax revenue totaled $3.39 billion in July, 13.5 percent more than in July 2020. The majority of July sales tax revenue is based on sales made in June and remitted to the agency in July.

VISD addresses COVID concerns

With Vidor schools resuming classes Wednesday and a recent increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in our region, Vidor ISD has is taking a number of measures to deal with the illness. Vidor ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jay Killgo issued the following statement on the Vidor ISD website.

Vidor to be certified a Music Friendly Community

The City of Vidor is expected to be among the latest Texas cities to be certified as a Music Friendly Community later this month with a certification ceremony at Vidor City Hall August 24. The city has completed the multi-step process to become certified, beginning with a workshop held in June.

Six injured in IH-10 accident on Saturday

Six people were injured, two seriously, after a pickup left the roadway, struck a guardrail and was struck by two following vehicles.

Soap making class

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office is having a Home & Body Essentials DIY Class. Come and ENJOY a fun day learning to make Home and Body products such as soap, sugar scrub and more. The class will be on Saturday, August 14th, from 10 am to 2 pm and is $25 per person.

The Orange County Emergency Services District #1 responded to the following calls from Monday, July 26, 2021, through Sunday, August 1, 2021. ‘MVC’ indicates a ‘Motor Vehicle Collision.’ ‘UTL’ means firefighters were ‘Unable To Locate’ the call.
