VHS senior Tamra Harris was crowned as the 2023 Vidor High School Homecoming Queen Friday in unplanned pre-game festivities. Due to the failure of a portion of the field lighting, all halftime activities were held before the kickoff, which was delayed almost 90 minutes due to the malfunction.

Sales tax revenue mostly good news for local government

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced he sent cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.1 billion in local sales tax allocations for October, 4.5 percent more than in October 2022. These allocations are based on sales made in August by businesses that report tax monthly.

Pre-K students visit FFA AG Farm

Monday, October 2, the VHS Ag Teachers, Mr. Tyler Root & Mrs. Brandy Whisenant hosted Vidor Elem. Pre K at the VHS Ag Barn. The Pre K students got to witness Rosa the lamb being sheared & toured all the other animals’ pens such as rabbits, cows, & pigs. All the kids enjoyed their “Aggie Day”.

Mr. Eric Hartman’s senior classes went to the Big Thicket in Kountze. The Building trades students should be able to identify the woods in the forest because this knowledge is fundamental to their understanding of construction materials.

Mr. Rollie Burr along with hospice care specialist Kirsten McDonald & Courtney Martin were guest speakers in the Health Science Nursing class. They spoke to the students about how volunteering at a hospice care facility can be an immensely rewarding experience.
