State shows the largest numerical population gain

Texas stands to gain two seats in the U.S. House of Representatives after results of the 2020 census released last week show the state had the largest numerical gain of any state since the 2010 census The population increased by nearly 4 million in the past decade, to 29.14 million.

10 Years ago April 28, 2011: A Vidor man in his mid-forties was struck and killed by a train as he walked on the KCS Railroad tracks near Stephenson Drive and Old Highway 90 East. Police are withholding the victim’s name until the next of kin can be notified.

A bid to expand health coverage for low-income Texans failed in the Texas House last week, 80-68. State leaders have long opposed expanding the Medicaid program, which is largely funded by the federal government.

Early voting underway across state

Early voting began Monday for May 1 elections in county, city and school district elections. Secretary of State Ruth R. Hughs encourages all eligible voters to take advantage of the early voting period, which runs through Tuesday, April 27.
