Story Time

The Vidor Public Library held Story Time on Thursday, September 20, 2018. Director Colette Turner read “Johnny Appleseed” by Patricia Demuth “With a bag of seeds and a pot on his head, John Chapman set out West to plant apple trees.” The children made an apple collage for the craft and enjoyed apple inspired treats.

Cypress Wood Carving Demonstration

Neches River Expert and Seabulk Towing Chief Engineer aboard the Athena, Chris Butts, wasa guest speaker for the Vidor High School Career and Technology Education Construction Trades classes.  Mr. Butts mentored the students in the functional art of cypress wood boat paddle making. Each student got to cut and carve their own paddle. Some will add coat hooks and use the paddles to hang caps or coats on.  Others will decorate with family names or simply use it as an oar. Region 5 ToY

Welding Program Receives Another Donation

VHS Welding Program has been blessed to receive another gracious donation. The Sabine Area Building & Construction Trades Council has donated $1000.00 to the CTE Welding program. The money will be used to purchase equipment and materials for the students to use while learning this trade skill. A sincere thank you goes out to Sabine Area Building Trades Council. This council is made up of trades such as the plumbing, electrical, and pipe fitting unions, just to name a few. Pictured are Mr. Jeremy Pavlich with the Plumber’s Union and Mr. Chris Reeves with the IBEW Electrical Union presenting VHS Welding Teacher Mr. Garrett Smith and his third period class with a check for $1000.00. Welding Program Gets Donation

Chevron Phillips Chemical Company in Port Arthur donated $5000.00 to the VHS Welding Program. The money will be used to purchase welding shirts, work boots, welding caps, gloves and any other equipment needed to protect the welding students while learning this trade skill.

Brig Awards

VHS Brigadettes attended camp and were awarded ribbons for their memory, technique and showmanship. Backpacks

Students received backpacks with supplies in them from the Kids in Need Foundation. Students at all three elementary schools in Vidor were served, although not every grade level received the gifts. The students pictured are from Pine Forest Elementary School.
