VPD ARRESTS APRIL 22-28

In recent weeks the Vidor Police Department responded to many calls. What follows are but a few of the incidents that required police action. Readers should remember that a person who was arrested has not been found guilty of any wrongdoing. At a future date a court, a jury or a judge, may convict the person or acquit the person on the charges for which they are arrested. A person charged may plead guilty or choose not to contest the charge, or the charge may be dismissed by a judge or no billed by a grand jury.

Wreck victim identified

On Monday, April 29th, 2024, deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 1500 block of Texla Road in Vidor in reference to a vehicle accident. Upon arrival, deputies observed a Jeep rolled over onto the passenger side of the vehicle. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, with the assistance of the Texas Department of Public Safety, was called in to investigate the scene further. The driver, a white male, was later confirmed to be deceased and has been identified as 67-year-old Donald Looney. This case remains open pending final autopsy, however, at this time no obvious signs of foul play are present.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has sued to stop an unlawful federal rule issued by the Biden Administration that destroys protections for women in educational institutions by mandating compliance with radical gender ideology. The Department of Education’s new regulatory requirements under Title IX expand the definition of “sex” to include one’s self-professed “gender identity.” Title IX is a civil rights law granting protections to women by prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sex in any educational program that receives federal money, including K-12 schools, colleges, and universities.

By John Green, Orange’s Certified Texas Expert Gardener Gardeners, most of you are aware the principal soil type in the majority of SETX locations (Orange & Jefferson counties) is termed ‘Gulf Coast Prairie’ appearing darkgray and consisting of slightly acid clay loam with mixtures of clay. As you probably know, clay soil can be challenging for gardeners and plants. While rich in nutrients, heavy clay soil drains slowly retaining moisture longer than other soil types. The soil becomes hard when dry, often showing fissures on the surface. Clay soils can be difficult to cultivate and problematic for plant roots to penetrate.

Attorney General Ken Paxton Successfully Defends Texas Election Integrity Law

AUSTIN – The Supreme Court of the United States (“SCOTUS”) declined to hear a case brought by a political group that sought to overturn Texas’s age-based restrictions on mail-in voting. This ends a years-long challenge in which Attorney General Ken Paxton successfully defended the Texas law that limits voting by mail, and the law will remain in place.
