TOPS Awards

TOPS held awards for the month of Dec. and Ms TOPSI was Glenda. Ms KOPSI was Janis. TOPS is a non profit weight loss organization that is open to men and women. Meetings are held on Mondays at First Methodist Church. Weigh in begins at 5:30, meetings are at 7. For more info contact Stephanie at 550-8598

LCM Claims Medals

Eight Little Cypress-Mauriceville art students of Betsy Kaufman submitted paintings for the Houston Livestock and Rodeo Art Contest this past weekend. Of the submissions, three seniors received medals for their work.Sundas Imtiaz took best of show for her painting, “Boot Scootin’.” Brooke Tant and Veronica Ibarra both won Gold Medals. Brooke’s painting is titled, “Bovine Beauty” and Veronica’s is “Desert Gabriel.”

Vidor Represented at RYLA

Attending Rotary Youth Leadership Awards this past weekend were Charlie Huang, Emma Huebel, Alexus Franks, and Mykailyn Harbison. They are pictured with President Elect Tim Andrews. The students heard from Rotarians and Rotaractors about trust, kindness, and friendship, and learned leadership skills at the camp.

Itty Bitty Story Time

Vidor Public Library held Itty Bitty Story Time on Thursday, January 7, 2016. Program Coordinator Megan Ridlespurge read New York Times bestseller “Dragons Love Tacos” by Adam Rubin. The audience learned why dragons love tacos and not spicy salsa. The children made paper dragons for the craft.

Public hearing set for Vidor’s proposed tax abatement zones

The public will get a chance to comment on the city’s five proposed tax abatement zones next month when the City of Vidor conducts a public hearing on Thursday, January 14, 2016, at 7 p.m. at Vidor City Hall, 1395 North Main Street. The five proposed reinvestment zones encompass most of the city and are for tax abatement purposes and will only be for qualifying new residential construction and/or improvements on existing residential construction.

Family of four suffers fire loss on day after Christmas

A family of four lost their home and belongings in a house fire on the day after Christmas in north Vidor. One member of the family was taken to by ambulance to a local hospital when he suffered smoke inhalation injuries after he attempted to reenter the burning residence to retrieve family belongings. The extent of the man’s injuries is unknown.

Today is the day to Plan While You Can

Whether you are still enjoying time off at home with your family between Christmas and New Year’s or you are at work today, looking forward to a second extended weekend now is the time to complete your plan for Thursday night’s celebration. Today, Wednesday, December 29th, is the day you should be finalizing your plan to get home safely after a night of partying and ringing in the New Year.

Purple Santa

The Mauriceville Elementary staff and student council, along with some help from the St. Maurice Catholic Church of Mauriceville, First Baptist Church of Mauriceville, Sabine River Ford, and ITW Mueller, were able to provide Christmas assistance through their Purple Santa program to 57 MVE children this Christmas. Teachers and staff in the attached photo get the presents ready to distribute to the children who will receive them.

MMS and LCJH bring home medals at UIL contest

Mauriceville Middle School and Little Cypress Junior High University Interscholastic League (UIL) participants were extremely successful at this year’s event. Individual awards were given for First through Sixth place and team awards were given for First through Third place.
