Carhoppers get busted

According to Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll, they call themselves “carhoppers”; young thieves that wander darkened residential streets at night checking parked cars for unlocked doors.

The week before last, an alert Vidor police patrol officer thought he heard the sound of a gunshot coming from a few blocks away early one morning as he was getting in his patrol car at the Vidor police station to start his day. The officer decided to go over to that area to check out the noise.
