Oak Forest Elementary to make use of detention ponds

  • With trackhoes that dug it in the background, this exavation on the northwest corner of the campus was a prerequisite for rebuilding on the Oak Forest Elementary campus. When completed, the detention ponds will capture water runoff before it flows to neighboring properties. As an added bonus, Science classes may also use it as an outdoor lab and observation area.

For a while it seemed Mother Nature was not content to have destroyed Oak Forest Elementary with devastating floods, but continued to show malice when construction began on the site elevation as several downpours washed away a week’s worth of site preparation more than once. In spite of the weather, work is progressing well with forms for the foundation set and much of the underground utility…
