Flood victims urged caution upon returning home

As East Texas residents return to clean up their homes and businesses after extensive flooding earlier this month, the Texas Department of State Health Services urged residents and business owners to exercise caution. Among the recommendations:

Spate of tornadoes far outpaces the average

April was a busy month for tornadoes across the United States with 373 recorded, bringing the total for the year to 549, the Austin American-Statesman reported. That is nearly double the average at this point in the year, the National Weather Service says.

A burglary suspect or suspects probably used some type of heavy object to throw at the front glass window of the Family Dollar Store in the 100 block of West Bolivar, in order to break into the merchant’s place of business on Monday night or Tuesday morning.

AUSTIN— The growth of industrial-scale users of power could strain the Texas power grid, ERCOT’s chief announced last week. The Dallas Morning News reported Pablo Vegas, the agency’s CEO, said bitcoin miners and artificial intelligence data centers going in across the state, as well as industrial growth in the Permian Basin, could create the need for a massive buildup of power transmission lines in the future.

“Hippo” Vaughn cursed his rotten luck on May 2, 1917, after losing the only double no-hitter in major league history. James Leslie Vaughn grew up in Weatherford, the Texas town west of Fort Worth where he was born in 1888.
