Seminoles, Red Raiders vie for the Conference Championship in Vidor

By Randall Luker

Vidor’s own Golden Triangle Seminoles and Houston’s Texas Red Raiders will battle it out Saturday in Pirate Stadium for the TUFA Longhorn Conference Championship and the right to advance to the 2018 TUFA Superbowl.

The two teams have met twice before with the Red Raiders claiming victory both times. Earlier this season when they met, the Seminoles dominated in the first half and the Red Raiders in the second, to emerge the winner with less than 10 seconds left on the clock.

Both teams have perfected their games in the meantime and Saturday’s game should be a great one that is expected to come down to the wire.

TUFA decision revamps Seminoles’ playoff schedule

Randall Luker
The Vidorian

What was settled wasn’t, then it was. Following last Saturday’s TUFA Divisional Playoff games, the Golden Triangle Seminoles 32-14 victory over San Antonio’s Texas Ravens assured them a place in the Conference Championship game that determines who goes to the league’s Super Bowl. However, the playoff game in Houston between the Texas Red Raiders and the Texas Mustangs was called at halftime due to weather. After considering several scenarios and with discussions between the owners, GM, HC, and the commissioner, a complete overhaul of the playoff picture emerged that takes different possibilities into consideration.

Randall Luker
The Vidorian

Vidor’s Pirate Stadium will host its first semiprofessional football playoff game Saturday at 5pm when the Golden Triangle Seminoles host the Katy Hurricanes.

The TUFA Wild Card matchup pits the #3 Seminoles against the #6 Hurricanes. When the teams met in the season opener back in February, the Seminoles blanked the Hurricanes 27-0 on a muddy, rain-soaked field. But in last year’s Texas Bowl, the Hurricanes defeated the Seminoles 30-6.
