Proper maintenance a must for your boat

On my 22 ft. Pathfinder there is a lot of equipment. High tech., state of the art electronics that tell me where the fish are, where I am at and where I am going, what the bottom looks like and even what objects are hidden there. Connected to the outboard motor is a whiz bang set of gauges that monitor fuel output and all engine functions. Underneath the deck are bilge pumps, live well pumps, wires, cables, and hoses going in every direction; not to mention four batteries, one for the outboard and electrical system and three for the Minn Kota trolling motor.

Sabine Lake offers a variety of fish to catch

Article Image Alt Text
By Capt. Bill Watkins

There are a lot of different fish to catch in Texas and Louisiana bays but there is no doubt that the most popular are red fish, spotted sea trout, and flounder. These are the species that I target. At times all three are available at Sabine Lake on a daily basis. Sometimes there are more trout available and sometimes more red fish and flounder. There are a lot of ways to catch these popular game fish. Live bait is good but hard to get at times. Dead shrimp or cut bait has some merit but is not as good as live bait.
