Deer change habits, avoid hunters

By Capt. Bill Watkins

The game camera told the story. In three nights it had captured at least nine different deer feeding under and around my feeder. Three of them were mature does with a couple of legal eight point bucks. One of the bucks looked as big as a yearling steer with a thick stubby neck, although his rack was not too special. This buck was at least four years old and had survived all efforts to take him out.

Rain dampens opening day

The frost was white on the ground and the stars were like diamonds twinkling on an ink black background. No doubt the deer would be moving on this opening morning of the season. Hold on! So much for big buck daydreams in fantasy land.
