The trick of the salt lick is to make it appealing

reading about Daniel Boone and Davey Crockettand other pioneers and pathfinders I would occasionally come across a passage mentioning a “salt lick”. Animals of all kinds would frequent such a place to lick the ground to get at the salt and other minerals to be found at such a place. A lick is a great spot to ambush deer, antelope, bison, elk, and a host of other critters. I always dreamed of finding a lick thinking that if I did it would make for easy pickings.

Monday was a beautiful day for fishing

Early Monday morning this week was one of the most pleasant mornings of this year. The temperature was sixty-five degrees and the sky overhead was blue with a few white puffy clouds. To the east over the Louisiana marsh the sun was hanging just over the marsh like an orange ball. The white clouds in that direction had a pinkish orange hue. There was just enough dust or mist in the air to mute the brightness of the sun so that it could be viewed without the aid of sunglasses.
