Pirates set records with 83-54 win over Baytown Lee Ganders

By Dan Luker

On a night where offensive fireworks were on display from the opening minute to the end of the game, Vidor’s Pirates set school records for most points scored in a half and most points scored in a game. With less than two minutes gone in the first quarter, the teams put up 27 points between them with Vidor leading 14-13. Fans began to jokingly question if 100 points could possibly be put on the scoreboard before all was said and done. The 100 mark was surpassed in the third quarter as the track meet continued in the second half.

Shrimp migration has begun

By Capt. Bill Watkins

Four days ago as my crew and I fished along the shore of Black’s Bayou we noticed a large butterfly boat ahead around the next bend. As we neared the boat we could see that the shrimpers on board were busy off loading the nights haul of shrimp into a smaller outboard powered skiff tied alongside. Evidently the nights catch was really good because the large plastic bin in the skiff was already.

Late turnover ends Pirate comeback effort vs Nederland

By Dan Luker

Vidor’s Pirates rolled up 438 rushing yards and added 44 yards through the air to outgain the Nederland Bulldogs, but still fell to their Mid-County nemisis 36-30 in Nederland. The Pirates, whose last victory over the Bulldogs came in 2010, put up a valiant fight, answering every Nederland score and were in great position to take the lead and the game late in the fourth quarter, when a fumble at the ‘Dog 22 yard line was recovered by the home team with just 1:23 left to play.

Meet Tanner Lee, 15, Freshmen Quarterback

by Pearce Bland

On September 17th Vidor’s Ivan Croak Field hosted the VHS Freshman game against Evadale’s JV team. Though there were concerns about the outcome of the game initially, those who attended witnessed an entirely different result. In the 2nd Quarter with about 2 minutes left, the Pirates got ready to make a push from Evadale’s 40 yard line. Being 3rd down and 10 yards to go, #3, Quarterback Tanner Lee, got ready to snap the ball and what happened next was a spectacular display of athleticism.
