Pirates ready to play for piece

Coming off a lopsided win over Baytown Lee and then a bye week, Vidor Head Coach Jeff Mathews has had ample time to prepare for perhaps the Pirates’ biggest challenge of the season, the undefeated Port Arthur Memorial Titans. “Anytime everyone can play it is a good game,” Mathews said of the Pirates romp over the Ganders. Mathews pulled most starters after the first half.

Beautiful fall fishing weather

It was a beautiful fall morning on Monday this past week. The wind was light east with a little bit of a slant to the northeast and the water was that pretty, clear Sabine Lake light coffee color. We were catching speckled trout in one of the larger sized bayous that drain into the lake. The fishing was fast and the trout small but plentiful and we already had a good box of fish going on.

The Baytown Lee Ganders proved no match for the Vidor Pirates Friday as the Pirates cruised to 45-14 victory in Stallworth Stadium, Taking the opening kickoff, the Ganders were quickly forced into a three and out, foreshadowing how much of the evening would go.

Lady Pirates fall to Lions

The Lady Pirate volleyball teams lost to Livingston 3-1 Thursday. Varsity went to four sets with scores of 19-25, 17-25, 25-21, 14-25. With theloss, varsity is now 15-22 on the season and 4-7 in District. The JV team lost in straight sets19-25, and 21-25. While the Freshman team lost 2-1 with scores of15-25, 25-19 and 16-25.

Pirates clinch playoff spot with

With Friday’s 49-14 Homecoming win over the Livingston Lions, the Vidor Pirates will make their first playoff appearance since 2012, and only the fifth since 2000. Vidor racked up 566 yards total offense while allowing Livingston only 207, mostly in the air. Vidor’s stifling defense was credited with 9 sacks and two interceptions plus two knocked down passes.
