Seminoles clinch Division with 58-38 win over Hawks

Randall Luker
The Vidorian

The Seminoles got off to a slow start Saturday against the Hawks of Hardin and Jefferson County but came roaring back in the second half to claim a 58-38 victory and clinch the Lone Star South Division title.

The Seminoles struggled to find their footing in the first half, settling for two Juan Perez field goals in the first quarter when a scrappy Hawks secondary denied them the pass. Bouyed by their defense, the Hawks’ offense came alive with a 30 point offensive explosion in the last 10 minutes of the second quarter to close out the first half with a 30-20 lead over the Seminoles.

Pirates hand Nederland first district loss Tuesday

By Randall Luker

The varsity Vidor Pirate baseball team knocked the Nederland Bulldogs out of the unbeaten ranks with a 4-1 victory in Vidor Tuesday.

Nederland, currently in first place in district, had their unblemished record tarnished by the Pirates’ tenacious defense that allowed just one run on six hits and an unrelenting offense that constantly chipped away at the Bulldogs defense, scoring four runs on nine hits.

The big break came for the Pirates in the fifth inning. The game had been tied 1-1 since the Pirates answered the Bulldogs first inning score in the bottom of the third inning.

Seminoles overcome early deficit to dominate Bears

By Randall Luker

It was cold, wet, and windy and the visiting Coastal Bend Bears arrived late, delaying Saturday’s kickoff until 7:45, but for those fans that chose to stick around, the Bears and the Seminoles put on a show well worth sticking around for. From the opening kickoff, which the Bears ran back 80 yards for a touchdown, to the final play, a Hail Mary pass just out of reach of a Bear receiver, football fans were treated to nonstop action for a full hour in Pirate Stadium.
