Evelyn Carter Powell Van Houten

Evelyn Carter Powell Van Houten, 92, born November 4th, 1925 in Hartburg, TX to Floyd and Emma Carter, died November 8th, 2017 in Katy, TX. She attended school in Deweyville, TX and graduated in 1944 as Valedictorian of her class. She worked at Livingston Shipyard until the war was over. She then attended business college and later taught shorthand and bookkeeping at the college. Evelyn is survived by 2 children: Paul Powell and his wife Bee Gee and David Powell and his wife Mindi, 1 sonin- law; Marvin Phillips, Sr., 8 grandchildren; Marvin, Jr., Steven, Jon and Matthew Phillips, Brian Powell, Jenny Gross, Lisa Powell, and numerous great grandchildren, 2 step children; Darlene Julian and Kenny Van Houten. She was preceded in death by her husband; John Van Houten, and infant son, daughter; Debra, grandson; Josh Phillips, sister; Katheryn Sandborn and brother; Floyd Carter, Jr. and her parents. Visitation will be Sunday, November 12, 2017 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Presley Jewel Maggard

Presley Jewel Maggard infant daughter of Joe Maggard and Alexis Porzadek died Monday, November 13th, 2017 at Women’s Medical Center in Houston, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 6:00 pm Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor. Presley is survived by her Parents Joe and Alexis, grandparent Terry and Gretchen LaFleur of Vidor, TX, Alfredo and Sofia Torres of Silsbee, TX and Michelle Maggard of Port Arthur, TX, numerous aunts, uncle, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Glynn Louis Reed

Glynn Reed, 73 of Vidor died Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Vidor Health and Rehab Center in Vidor. A native of Orange, he was a longtime resident of Vidorand a Vietnam Conflict veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a licensed Funeral Director and worked for Memorial Funeral Home in Vidor, Pace Funeral Home in Kountze and Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor. He is survived by his daughters Jeanna Raynes of Mt. Pleasant, and Missy Ratliff of Vidor; sons Chad Reed of Mauriceville, and Jarrod Reed of Vidor; brother Jim Reed of WV; sister Jean Pendarvis of Vidor; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Clayton Nelson, 78 of Vidor died Friday, November 3, 2017 at Vidor Health and Rehab Center in Vidor. A native of Singer, LA, he was a longtime resident of Vidor was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Graveside services will begin at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Good Hope Cemetery in Singer, LA. He is survived by his brother Royce Nelson of Vidor, and sister Jeanette Crawford of Vidor.

Winter Olivia Ann Lewis, infant daughter of Roger Alan Lewis and Jessica Nicole Buck, of Vidor, died Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. Graveside services, under the direction of Farmer Funeral Home, will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Williamson Cemetery in Vidor. Survivors other than her parents include grandparents William and Arnette Buck of Vidor and Marvin and Regina Lewis of Vidor; brothers Jayse Luu and Jarrick Roberts, both of Vidor; and sisters Avery Argo-Lewis of Bryan and Emily Lewis of Vidor.

David “Mickey” Michael Watson, Sr.

David “Mickey” Watson, 71 of Vidor died Monday, November 6, 2017 at UTMB Hospital in Galveston. He was a 1964 Vidor High School graduate and was a member of the Iron Workers Local Union #135. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Friday, November 10, 2017 at Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor. Graveside services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 10, 2017 at Tanner Cemetery in Burkeville. He is survived by his sons, David Michael Watson, Jr. and Jason Lee Watson, both of Vidor; daughters, Wendy Taiwan Reynolds of Katy, and Misty Renee Watson of Vidor; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Dennis Anthony “Ratman” Prouse

Dennis Anthony “Ratman” Prouse, 76, of Vidor, passed away on November 3, 2017, in Beaumont. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Father Paul Sumler. Burial will follow at Del Rose Cemetery in Vidor. Visitation will begin at 7:00 p.m., and a Rosary will follow at 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Born in Crowley, Louisiana, on August 10, 1941, he was the son of Paul Prouse and Enola (Blanchard) Prouse. Dennis “Ratman” worked as a maintenance mechanic at Chevron. He really enjoyed coaching Little League baseball and football and coached for many years. He enjoyed to hunt, fish, and drive too fast. He also was very fond of boating and solving crossword puzzles. He adored his family, especially his grandbabies. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Juanita J. Acker

Juanita J. Acker, 77, of Vidor, TX went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 31, 2017. Juanita was born on January 14, 1940 in DeQuincy, LA to Ray and Stella Acker. Juanita was a homemaker and she also was a member of the Church of Christ. Juanita is preceded in death by her parents, R.L. and Stella Acker; a son, Michael Ross Sellers; a daughter, Gina Sellers; a sister, Leona Leonard; and a nephew, Sheldon Wayne Leonard. Juanita is survived by two sons, James Kuykendall, and wife, Janis, and Kurt Sellers, and wife, Becky; two brothers, Lucky Acker, and Frank Acker; a sister, Betty Cormier; 10 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren; as well as other family members and friends. The family received friends on Sunday, November 5, 2017 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm in the chapel of Lumberton Family Funeral Home. A Life Honoring service was held on Monday, November 6, 2017 in the Chapel at the Funeral Home at 10:00am. Interment followed immediate at Restlawn Memorial Park in Vidor.

Sharlotte “Sha” Ann Nolan

Sha Nolan, 68 of Vidor died Thursday, November 2nd, 2017 at Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas in Beaumont. A native of Orange, Texas, she was a longtime resident of Vidor. Sha was a member of Rose City Baptist and was a homemaker. She was a baker and a cake decorator. She also liked to collect bells and loved animals and gardening. Visitation was held from 12:00 - 2:00 and the funeral began at 2:00 pm Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor with cremation following. Sha is survived by her husband of 48 years Robert Nolan, daughter Helena Henry and husband Kenny, son David Nolan and wife Rhonda all of Vidor, TX, sisters Aris Gibbins and Vel Williams both of Mauriceville, TX, 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and one on the way. She was preceded in death by her daughter Marvena LeBlanc.
