James S. Rhodes

James S. Rhodes

James S. Rhodes, 79, of Vidor, TX died Wednesday, June 17th, 2020 at his home. A native of Kountze, TX he was a longtime resident of Vidor and served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Calvert during Vietnam. James retired from BASF and enjoyed fishing, camping and going to the casinos and playing the slot machines. James was an avid Texas Longhorn and Dallas Cowboy fan. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends and family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Visitation was Monday, June 22, 2020 beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at Restlawn Memorial Park.

David Lee Bennett Sr.

David L. Bennett, 50 of Vidor died Monday, June 8th, 2020 in Orange. A native of Beaumont, he was a longtime resident of Vidor. David never wanted to be defined by his addiction and mistakes. He was a kindhearted man that fell into it's grips. He was a fighter by spirit and would do anything for his loved ones, even while struggling with his demons. We will miss him everyday for the rest of our lives. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor. Davis was preceded in death by his mother Susan Leigh Ingle and daughter kelsey Saunders. He is survived by his sons David Lee Bennett Jr of Beaumont, TX and Chad Michael Bennett of Bridge City, TX, daughter Summer Hanson of Vidor, TX, father James C. Bennett Jr of Mauriceville, TX, brother Jame Darren Bennett of Mauriceville, TX, sister Brandy Bennett of Vidor, TX, and 4 grandchildren.

Lewis Clayton Long Sr.

Lewis C. Long Sr., 75 of Gary, TX died Monday, June 8th, 2020 at his residence. A native of Kirbyville, TX, he lived in Vidor before moving to Gary 15 years ago. Lewis was a plant operator with Print Pac in Orange, TX. He loved to fish and hunt. Lewis enjoyed piddling around the house and was a master of jerry rigging. one of his favorite activities was dancing with his wife. Visitation will begin at 6:00pm Thursday, June 11, 2020 at Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor. Funeral services were held at 10:00am Friday, June 12, 2020 at Memorial Funeral Home followed by burial at Restlawn Memorial Park in Vidor. Lewis was preceded in death by his wife Patsy Long. He is survived by his son Lewis "Bubba" Long Jr of Nederland, TX and Byron McDaniel Sr. of Burkeville, TX, daughters Kelli Grey of Beaumont, TX, Page Mays of Kountze, TX, Misty Long of Nederland, TX. Cindy McDaniel of Burkeville, TX and Karen Smith of Vidor, TX, 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Jaxon Taylor Savoy

Jaxon Taylor Savoy, 6, of Vidor, passed away on June 10, 2020, in Houston. A celebration of Jaxon’s life was held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Pastor Brandon Savoy. Please join the family to release balloons and bubbles to greet Jaxon in heaven. Visitation was from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday, June 15, 2020 at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Preston Allen Lynn Brister

Preston Allen Lynn Brister, 16 of Orange died Monday, June 8th, 2020 at his residence. A native of Wichita Falls, Texas, he was a longtime resident of Orange. Preston attended Orangefield High School were he ran track and played football. He was on the student counsel, debate team and honor society. Preston enjoyed fishing and being with family and friends. Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm and the funeral services at 2:00 pm Saturday, June 13, 2020 at Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor with cremation to follow. Preston is survived by his parents Walter and Tammy Brister of Orange, TX, brothers Colten Harrington of Sulphur, LA and Jordan Brister of Orange, TX, grandparents Veronica Brister of Temple, OK, Linda and Doug Ray of Great Falls, Montana.

Leslie A. Riccardi

Leslie A. Riccardi, 78, of Vidor, TX died Saturday, June 6th, 2020 at her home. A native of Cleveland, OH she's been a resident of Vidor for the last 16 years. Leslie worked as a nurse especially in the Emergency Room or Surgical Unit. She was a member of the Eastern Star of Cleveland, OH and enjoyed sewing, all types of art, going deep sea fishing and motorcycle riding. Leslie is survived by 2 sons; John Hall of Clayton, NC and David Hall of Vidor, 1 daughter; Dorothy Barras of Rose City, TX, a special cousin along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor.

Funeral services were Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at 10:oo a.m. at Turning Point Church followed by interment at Restlawn Memorial Park. Jensen is survived by his parents; Joseph and Fanci Powell of Vidor, his twin sister; Scarlett Powell, grandparents; Gary and Melanie Powell, Dena Simmons and Everett Thompson, and 2 great grandmothers; Dorothy Powell and Martha Hornback. Arrangements were entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor.

Brian "Red" Hitchcock

Brian "Red" Hitchcock, 72, of Vidor, TX died Tuesday, June 2nd, 2020 in Spurger, TX. A native of Good Hope, MS he was a longtime resident of Vidor. Red served his country during Vietnam with the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of the Vidor VFW Post #8246. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his buddies. Visitation was Thursday, June 4, 2020 at 6:00p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor. Funeral services were held Friday, June 5, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home. Red is survived by 3 daughters; Brandi Hale of CA, Rachella Hitchcock of WI, and Bridgett Hitchcock also of CA, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, 1 sister; Patricia Taylor of Vidor, 1 niece; Trish Taylor of Vidor, 1 great niece; Janessa Taylor, 1 aunt; Jackie Jeffcoats of Mauriceville, TX and 1 uncle; Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor.

James Jason Kight

Jason Kight, 54 of Lumberton died Monday, June 8th, 2020 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. A native of Pasadena, TX, he was a lifelong resident of Lumberton. Jason was a Senior Project Manager for Colgan, Ind. in Beaumont since 2012. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most of all he loved to swim and hang out with his kids. Visitation will begin at 6:00 pm Thursday, June 11, 2020 at Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, June 12, 2020 at Fountain Cemetery in Starks, LA. Jason is survived by his wife of 26 years Paula Kight of Lumberton, TX, son James Blake Kight McGilberry of Lumberton, TX, daughter Brittany Don Kight-Johnson and of Beaumont, TX, mother Jacklyn Kight of Lumberton, TX, sisters Fonda Annette Kerslake and her husband Walter of Martindale, TX, Gina Marie Fidge and her husband Dennis of Conroe, TX, He is preceded in death by his father James Edward Kight and nephew Jacob Dean Fidge.

Joe Haeggquist

Joe Haeggquist, 39, of Vidor, TX died Friday, June 5th, 2020 at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont, TX. A native of Fort Smith, AR he was a longtime resident of Vidor and a 1999 graduate of Vidor High School. Joe earned his Bachelors of Science degree from Lamar University. He was also a graduate of St. Mary’s University earning his Doctorate of Jurisprudence and achieving the Order of Barristers. Joe was a four year letterman at Lamar University in indoor and outdoor track and cross country. Joe was a lifetime athlete. He competed in triathlons, iron man competitions and bike endurance racing. He also competed in international competitions. In 2003 he participated as an Athlete in Action missionary in Moscow, Russia. In 2008 he organized and participated in raising cancer awareness by cycling 3300 miles across the United States in 33 days. In 2009 he ran a marathon a day for 30 days to raise money and awareness for diabetes research.
