Remington Gene Steele

Remington Gene Steele of Vidor died on April 21, 2015, atBaptist Hospital in  Beaumont. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 24, 2015, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. He is survived by his parents, Mark Steele, Jr. and Candice Steele; grandparents, Mark Steele, Sr. and Candice Steele, Debra Lawrence, David and Deidre Lawrence, Faron and Pam Wilson, Jerry and Debra Kibodeaux; greatgrandparents, Doris Steele, Jim Jones, Pat Lawrence, Genny and Chuck Conroy, Jerry and Lona Risinger, Carl and Julia Garrett; and great-greatgrandmother, Mildred “GiGi” Perry.

Donald Pendarvis

Colonel Donald R. Pendarvis died Friday, April 24, 2015, at his home after a lengthy battle with colorectal cancer. A native of Jonesboro, LA, he enlisted first in the U. S. Marine Corps and then transferred his commission to the U. S. Army. and he was decorated with the Legion of Honor, Bronze Star, and Medals of Commendation from Joint Service and the Army. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2015 from 2-4:00 p.m. at his residence. He is survived by his widow, Jean; daughter Donna (Didi) Joao of Vidor; son James (Tobey) Pendarvis of Houston; three grandchildren and one stepgranddaughter.

Elaine L. Loftin

Elaine L. Loftin, 66, a longtime resident of Vidor, died on April 22nd, 2015 in Beaumont. She liked doing arts and crafts and traveling but she especially loved to spend quality time with her family and her dogs. Elaine is survived by her husband of 35 years, Herman Loftin, a daughter, Christine Price and husband Michael of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, 3 grandchildren, Kassandra, Benjamin, and Nathaniel Price and mother-in-law, Helen Loftin of Vidor. She is also survived by niece, Radonna Horonetz and husband Joseph and their children, Asley and Bryan along with many other nieces and nephews. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Leora Myers and 4 sisters, Sharon, Kay, Edna, and Charlene. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor.

Alton B. “Al” Childs

Alton B “Al” Childs, 81, of Port Arthur, died Saturday, April 25, 2015. He was born on May 26, 1933, in Tenaha, to Lois Ables and Sidney V. Childs. Alton will be remembered as a man that loved the Lord and playing golf. He enjoyed cooking and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and greatgrandfather. Alton was a United States Army veteran and a retired machinist.

Melvin Franklin

Melvin Edgar Franklin, 85, of Orange, died Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at Oakwood Manor in Vidor. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 25, 2015, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m., Friday, April 24, 2015, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Born in Kelly, Louisiana, he worked as a process operator at DuPont SRW for 37 years before retiring. He is survived by his children, Annette Shaw of Orange and Beverly Salim of Lumberton; one granddaughter; three great-grandchildren, and his brother, Sherrill M. Franklin. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may  be made to the American Diabetes Association at P.O. Box 11454 Alexandria,  VA 22312.

jerame thibodeaux

Jerame “Big J” Allen Thibodeaux, 35, of Hammond, LA died April 20th, 2015 in Oklahoma City, OK. anative of lives Vegas, NV, he lived in Hammond, LA for the past year. He attended Orangefield High School and was a self-employed carpenter. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor. He is survived by a daughter, Scantae Thibodeaux of San Diego, CA, mother and step-father Snuffy and James Wolfley of Hammond,  LA, step-brother James Wolfrey also of  Hammond, LA. He is also survived by two step-sisters, Fallecia  Wolfrey of Hammond,LA and Amanda Danes of Susanville, CA, numerous uncles, aunts,  cousins and second mother, Frances Eaves  of Vidor.

Sherwood Rees

Sherwood Rees Rees, 87, of Port Arthur, died Friday, April 17, 2015 at the Rose House in Port Arthur. He was a native of Sabine Pass, and retired from Sun Marine Terminalas Superintendent of  Operations.A memorial gathering  will be held on Sunday,April 26, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland. He is survived by   his sons, Charlie Rees  of Groves, Harry Rees of Port Neches, Martin Rees of Port Neches, Raymond Rees of Vidor, Ronnie Gebauer   f Houston, and Keith  Gebauer of Port Arthur; daughters, LaJaunda Williams of Nederland,  and Gaytha Guillot of Nederland; 14 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Evelyn Smith

Evelyn Smith, 89, a longtime resident of Vidor died on April 15th, 2015 in Vidor. She loved gardening, attending church, and visiting with friends and family but her life was devoted to raisingher four children and taking care of her mom and dad. She also generously and lovingly made contributions to many charitable organizations. Evelyn is survived by 2 daughters, Linda Osborne and husbandJoe of San Augustine, TX, and Gale Hergert and husband Steve of Orange, 2 sons, Danny Smith and wife Charlene of Mauriceville and Gary Smith and wife Nora of Vidor. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 10 great-great  grandchildren,

John Tyler Baswell

Memorial service for John Tyler Baswell, 83, of Silsbee will be 6:00 pm Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Farmer Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm before the service. Mr. Baswell passed away April 18, 2015at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont. John was born in Springville, Alabama and was a resident of Vidor for 40 years before moving to Silsbee 13 years ago. He worked for Borden Milk Company as a maintenance tech. He is preceded in death by his parents Luther and Gladys Baswell; daughter Becky Moore; brother Thurman Baswell; sisters Odestar Cook, Cytha Morgan and Curtell Cardon and granddaughter Veronica Grider.

Melba Carlene Gravenmier

Melba Carlene Gravenmier, 90, a longtime resident of Vidor died on Saturday, April 18th, 2015 in Beaumont, Texas. She was a member of Pine Forest Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years and also was a member of the Vidor chapter of T.O.P.S. Melba was a foster parent for 20 years and liked to spend time out in her garden. She was especially fond of her dogs whom she loved very much. Melba is survived by her daughter, Mary Kay Risinger and husband James of Shelbyville, TX, son, Charles Gravenmier and wife Cynthia of Vidor, 9 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Bob Adams and wife Lorraine of Holden, LA, numerous  nieces, nephews, andlongtime friends,  Karen Jensen and her daughter Rebecca Daniels. Melba was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Thomas Henry Gravenmier, a daughter, Melba Sally Gravenmier, 3 brothers,  and 2 sisters. Visitation will be Monday, April 20, 2015 beginning at 6:00 p.m.
