Ross Goats

Ross Alan Goats, 51, of Mauriceville, died Tuesday, September 1, 2015. He was a native of Groves and owned a remodeling business for 26 years. He is survived by his wife, Erica Goats of Mauriceville; daughters, Megan Goats of Orange, Monica Goats of Orange and Erica Renee Goats of Mauriceville; uncle, Bo Goats of Nederland; sisters, Sondra Mora of Pasadena and Shana Maceda of Orange. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 5, 2015, at Faith Tabernacle of Vidor. Interment followed at Orange Forest Lawn Cemetery, Orange.

Michael “Mike” Sleeper

Mike Sleeper, 66, of Nederland, died Tuesday, September 1, 2015. He was a native of Beaumont, and had been a lifelong resident of the area. He was a United States Navy veteran. His funeral service was held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 5, 2015, at Broussard’s, with his entombment following at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County, Nederland. He is survived by his wife, Annie Sleeper, of Nederland; sons, Kevin Sleeper of Nederland and Kory Sleeper of Taylor Lake Village; three grandchildren; brother, William W. Sleeper of Bandera; and sister, Pam Richardson of Vidor. Memorial contributions in Mr. Sleeper’s name may be made to Brooke’s Believers, Inc., P.O. Box 7964, Beaumont, Texas 77726.

LILLIAN ELIZABETH WHITMAN

Lillian Elizabeth Whitman, 95, of Vidor, died Sunday, August 30, 2015. She was a native of Port Barre, LA, and was a Vidor resident for 60 years. Rosary for will be recited at 5:00 p.m., with her gathering to follow Friday, September 4, 2015, at Broussard’s, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 5, 2015, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Vidor, with her interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont. She is survived by her children: daughters, Mary Stanley of Lumberton and Carol Dunnam of Fannett; sons, Ronnie Whitman; David Whitman of Vidor; and Tom Whitman of Magnolia; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister, Roberta Holmes.

Tommy “Butch” S alyers Jr.

Tommy “Butch” Salyers Jr., 68 of Vidor died Saturday, August 29th, 2015 at his residence. A native of Bluefield, WV, he was a longtime resident of Vidor. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor. He is survived by his daughter Tammy Taylor and son Tommy Salyers III both of International Falls, MN, brothers Billy Salyers and Handy Randy Salyers both of Vidor, and numerous grandchildren.

David Dean

Ronald David Dean,57, of Nederland died Tuesday, August 25, 2015, at Harbor Hospice, Beaumont. A native and lifelong resident of the area, he was born in Beaumont. His funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Hillcrest Baptist Church, Nederland, with a committal service at 2:00 p.m., at Antioch Cemetery, Woodville, under the direction of Broussard’s, Nederland. Survivors include his wife, Pam Dean of Nederland; sons, Adam Dean of Franklin, TN and Jordan Dean of Nashville, TN; brothers, Robert Dean of Rose City; Danny Dean of Vidor; and Doug Dean of Kirbyville; sisters, Sandy Dinsmore of Beaumont and Laurie Hanks of Vidor; mother and stepfather, Lois and Tommy Thompson of Vidor; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Janette and Carroll Landry of Nederland. Wesley Bubba Joe Ford

Ford, 66, of Orangefield, died Thursday, August 27, 2015, at his home. He was a native of Orange, and worked for Boilermaker Local 587. Funeral services were held at 11:00am, Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. He is survived by his wife, Dortien (Gary) Ford; daughter, Priscilla Ruth Pris Ford, of New Iberia, LA, along with her daughter Kerissa Ann Harrington; his brother, Turley Bob Ford of Starks, LA.

Arlene K. Smith

Arlene K. Smith, 86, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, August 19, 2015, at Oakwood Manor Nursing Home, Vidor. She was a native of Haleyville, AL. Her funeral service  was held at 2:00 p.m.,Friday, August 21, 2015, at Broussard’s,  Beaumont. Her interment followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont. Survivors include her children, Jackie Harrison of Orange; Robert Smith of Winnie; Vicki Greiger; seven grandchildren;  nine greatgrandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Matthew Crate

Matthew Crate, 49, was born on 26 June, 1966 in Fukuoak Machi, Iwateken Japan. After graduating high school in Vidor, Matt joined the U.S. Navy and served four honorable years. After his service he followed his passion; cooking. Matt had a way with people, getting to know them as individuals and gaining lifetime friends. Through his cooking he was able to travel around the U.S.. His career peaked as he worked at the Pompano Club in Port Neches, TX. Matt also enjoyed fishing, barbequing  and life adventures. He is survived by his wife, Denise Crate of Orange, mother, Doris Haire of Vidor, father, Milton Crate and his wife Marty of Rochester, 3 brothers, Thomas Lewis of Alfomonte Springs, FL, Damon Haire of Vidor, and Michael Crate of South Bend, IN, and step-son, Taylor Porter. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a step-daughter,  Samantha Jackson, stepfather, Thomas Lewis, Jr. and step-father, Samuel Haire.

Robert William Reagor Sr.

Robert William Reagor Sr., 43M of Vidor, Texas lost his battle with cancer on August 18, 2015. Robert was born November 20, 1971 in Pasadena, Texas, the son of Billy Edward & Minnie Pearl (HILLIS) Reagor. He graduated from Vidor High School, class of 1990, and had been an Electrian for Diamond Offshore of Houston, working mostly in Brazil. He married Michelle Lee Peterson on April 29, 1995. He enjoyed fishing, football games and working with the Vidor FFA, attending many of the livestock shows in the area, and helping with the parade floats. Robert was predeceased by his father, Billy Edward Reagor, his sister, Debbie Lynn (Reagor) Jackson, grandparents, Thomas Edward Reagor, and Alvin Burton & Friedda Dorothy Mae (Friebel) Hillis. He is survived by his wife, Michelle (Peterson) Reagor, two sons, Robert William Reagor, Jr.

Bettie Marie McClain

Bettie Marie McClain was born on July 24, 1941 and passed away on August 16, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. At the time of her passing she was 74 years and 23 days of age. Bettie was reared and attended school in Beaumont & Vidor, Texas. After her schooling she became a hairdresser. Within a month after Mac McClain was discharged from the Marine Corps they were united in marriage on April 3, 1965 and to this union 4 children were born, 3 of whom survive her. They made a home together in Vidor, TX then they moved to Houston, TX,  then Galveston, TX, then Hitchcock, TX, then Alta Loma, TX, then Woodstock, NY, then back to Galveston, TX, then Friendswood, TX, then Buffalo, MO and then Marshfield, MO. She loved to make car trips every weekend until the kids came along. She loved sewing, crafting, making ceramics, cat fishing, cooking, especially Cajun food, and then playing poker as her mobility declined.
