Careful inspections can prevent future breakdowns

After a day of fishing in salt water there must be a mandatory wash down. The salt water is one factor  but if it has been a good fishing day there will be the usual splatters of blood, slime, dirt, and fish barf that is baked on the floor  and inner walls of the boat. Without the wash down the boat would soon take on the multicolored hues of a  rab boat. Most of the time I do this task at one of the several car washes betweenSabine Lake and my home in Vidor and this past Monday was no exception.

H.S. Cafeteria expansion being considered

George Garza
The Vidor High School Cafeteria is jammed packed each school day during the two-scheduled lunch periods. When the weather is bad outside or the outside temperatures are too hot, the Cafeteria sees even more students trying to find a place to  sit. Since the school switched to an eight period day from the old long block schedule back in the fall  of 2010, the amount of time left for lunch was reduced from three lunch periods to  two. Plans at that time to enlarge the Cafeteria were shelved due to costs. The problem still exists and some students  solve it by taking their mid-day meal outside or to other available spaces.

The 2015 Orange County

The 2015 Orange County Sheriff’s Office annual Cops ‘n Kids Picnic at Claiborne-West Park last Friday was an unqualified success with nearly 2,000 children attending. Clockwise from the upper left; a Silsbee day care center child aims the OCESD#1 fire hose at a prop with the help of a fire department Explorer; Vidor Police Explorers man the table at the Vidor P.D. booth at Cops ‘n Kids; area businesses provided knick-knacks and the like to the kids at the Cops ‘n Kids Picnic; this is only one small section of the Claiborne-West park that was nearly overrun with kids at the 2015 OCSO Cops ‘n Kids Picnic.
