Concrete work to close Vidor exit ramp

Those of us that use the Main Street exit ramp when coming home to Vidor from Beaumont will have to remember to exit early or go down further to get off the freeway next week on Monday. Weather permitting; the Texas Department of Transportation will be closing the I-10 Eastbound F.M. 105-exit ramp on Monday, April 6th from 7:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.

MMS students visit with author

Writingstudents  in Julie Pelt and Kaycie Donnaud’s seventh grade classes at Mauriceville Middle School got to visit by Skype with the author of several young adult books on Tuesday, March 24. Frank McMillan, who has penned books such as “The Young Healer” and “Cezanne is Missing,” used Skype to talk to the students about being an author and the art of writing.

County is losing money on culvert installations

Here comes an opportunity for you to have a say in a policy of  Orange County government that will be up for review in a future public hearing. The Orange County Commissioners’ Court has decided that it will hold a public hearing in the near future to determine if the county should change its culvert policy to increase the cost to citizens for installation of driveway culverts. The Court will also take public comment on whether the County Road and Bridge department should eliminate providing culvert installation on commercial projects during that public hearing.

Downtown entrance ramp closing

The Texas Department of Transportation announced on Wednesday that the downtown Beaumont eastbound freeway entrance ramp at the foot of the Purple Heart Memorial Bridge would be closed to all traffic due to bridge construction. The TXDOT news release indicated that this downtown entrance ramp closure would last until the new bridge reconstruction alongside of the current bridge is completed and the new freeway traffic lanes are opened. Currently drivers from downtown Beaumont use Pine Street and Pearl Street to access the Eastbound I-10 freeway heading to Vidor and Orange County over what remains of the old Purple Heart Memorial Bridge.
