Police academy announces dates for entrance exam

BEAUMONT – The Regional Police Academy at Lamar Institute of Technology will be testing in October for its next class session. Those interested must take the entrance exam in order to attend the academy.

Detours may cause bottlenecks

The price of progress is often annoyance and delays. This time though, the price may include danger. The Texas Department of Transportation has announced that due to freeway construction, drivers on both eastbound and westbound I-10 at the Purple Heart Memorial Bridge will likely find traffic delays as road crews close traffic lanes going both ways.

The road is closed

Over the weekend, road closure signs went up in Rose City on Old Highway 90 eastbound near Mockingbird Drive and in Vidor on Old Highway 90 westbound at South Dewitt Road warning drivers that the road was closed ahead. On Monday morning Old Highway 90 was closed some 1.5 miles west of South Dewitt Road as contractors begin preparations to tear out and demolish a box culvert drainage bridge that crosses beneath the highway.

City proclaims CMT Awareness Month

September is Charcot-Marie-Tooth Awareness Month in Vidor. Mayor Robert Viator, Jr. issued the proclamation during Vidor City Council’s regular meeting Thursday. Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) is one of the most common inherited neurological disorders, affecting approximately 1 in 2,500 people in the United States.

The Court of Appeals for the 9th Judicial District of Texas has denied a motion by an attorney representing convicted murderer Kelvin Lee Roy asking the court to appeal Roy’s conviction of Murder by the 163rd District Court in Orange in May of 2014.
