Pine Forest agrees to franchise commercial garbage pickup service

The City of Pine Forest has entered into a contract with Progressive Waste Solutions to provide exclusive commercial garbage collection in the City. During their June City Council eeting the Pine Forest  City Council hear a proposal from Sherry Smucker-McVee of Progressive Waste Solutions to provide commercial and roll-off garbage collection for the city. Currently, Pine Forest already had an exclusive contract with Progressive Waste Solutions for a residential garbage pickup franchise.

Suspects in Mauriceville trailer theft caught in Vidor

An alert employee and Orange County Sheriff deputies managed to corral two men trying to make off with a stolen trailer and generator in Vidor this week. According to Orange County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Clint Hodgkinson the incident began around 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday when an employee of the Mauriceville Utility District spotted a truck pulling a trailer and generator that belonged to the district. Hodgkinson said the employee called the Sheriff’s dispatcher to report that he was following the truck pulling the trailer that was apparently stolen from a MUD well site on F.M. 2802 near Mauriceville.

Holiday closures include cities, county

Today is the day we celebrate the Declaration of Independence of our thirteen American Colonies from the rule and authority of King George III of England. It is the day fifty-six delegates from those thirteen colonies met as the Continental Congress in a room that would become know as Independence Hall inside of the Pennsylvania State House in Philadelphia to ratify and sign the Declaration. On July 4th, in 1776, bells were rung, guns fired into the air and some firecrackers were set off in the town of Philadelphia when it was nnounced by town criers that the  Second Continental Congress had ratified the Declaration.

Cops looking for drunks and fireworks on the Fourth
