Court engages in frank budget discussions

In recent weeks the Orange County Commissioners Court has met in a number of workshop sessions  about the County’s annual budget. These meetings are unusual in the fact that normally commissioners wait until the County Judge presents the Court with a rough draft of the coming fiscal year’s budget at the end of July of each year. By law, the county’s CEO must present a preliminary budget for discussion at that time.

by George Garza

Orange attorney Christine R. Brown-Zeto has filed an appeal of Kelvin Lee Roy’s murder conviction in the Court of Appeals for the 9th Judicial District of Texas. New A.I.M. Center is closer to reality

by George Garza

The Board of Trustees of the Vidor Independent School District met in a workshop session to discuss plans for a new Vidor A.I.M. Center High School building last Thursday night. In the non-voting workshop session, a representative of the architectural firm Mark Magnuson and Associates presented his floor plan of a new 10,000 square foot building. The Board of Trustee is considering whether to spend money out of District’s fund balance to build the new building. If they choose to do so, the building would be constructed on property the school district owns just east of the Vidor High School front entrance and fronting on Orange Street.

Weekend trip to the farm was fun and relaxing as usual

couple of weeks ago I made my first visit to our East Texas farm in many months. I didn’t know what to expect, but things were pretty much as can be expected for an aging house empty for a good part of the time. The early spring rural landscape compensates for anything negative. I was making the trip up to Anderson County riding with my son Randall. We picked up his two girls and the “grandparent” weekend began. At the farm, Randall is the cook. He enjoys making new dishes as well as the old standbys. My habit of eating cereal and a breakfast bar in the morning is broken as he made biscuits, your choice of  eggs, bacon, fruit, etc. After making that meal, he walkedaway and it was clean-up time.
