Boomtown Music and Film Festival seeking volunteers

Boomtown Music and Film Festival will hold an open meeting Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 6 p.m. at The Beaumont Art League to recruit and educate volunteers for the festival, which is scheduled for Feb. 26-28. The Beaumont Art League is located at 2675 Gulf Street. “We are so excited to put on BoomFest for the eighth year in a row in Beaumont,” Sheena McCrary, volunteer coordinator said. “It is a grassroots, local project that requires dedicated volunteers in order to make this festival the best we’ve ever presented.”

Band students earn first division medals

Students from the Vidor High School Band earned 121 first division medals at the UIL Solo- Ensemble contest held at Lumberton High School Friday, February 6, 2015. Soloists qualifying for the UIL Texas State Solo-Ensemble Contest are Zach Domec, piano and alto saxophone; Dakota Ard, tenor saxophone; Ana Plake, flute; and Hannah Hudgins, percussion.

LCM Quiz Team

On Saturday, January 31, the LCM Quiz Bowl team competed in the 1st round of the Channel 6 Academic Challenge. They defeated Vidor 255 to 40. The team members are Shri Murthy, Aaron Rose, and Arish Bheraiya. Jessica Robertson is alternate. This segment is scheduled to air on Saturday, February 21. The team is coached by Charlette Roddy and Marcia Brown. Students are, from left, Shri Murthy, Aaron Rose and Arish Bheraiya.

Itty Bitty StoryTime

The Vidor Public Library held Itty Bitty Storytime on Thursday, February 5, 2015. Program Coordinator Megan Mack read “The Night Before Valentine’s Day” by Natasha Wing and “Where Is Baby’s Valentine?” by Karen Katz. The children made Valentine cards and enjoyed a cupcake.

LCM Education Foundation, Inc. grants over $16,000 for projects

Lisa Martin’s class at Mauriceville Elementary received a grant to help with reading skills today.

The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Education Foundation, Inc. held its annual “Prize Patrol” on Tuesday, February3, funding 14 grants totaling $16,314.89. The “Grants-To-Educators” program began in 2004 and this year’s donation brings the total given to $158,276.23 for 130 grants.
