Library Friends Sale

The Friends of the Library Annual Spring Sale will be held April 8, 2015 in the Mellie Nagai Community Room at the Vidor Public Library, 440 E. Bolivar from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Those wishing to donate either books or white elephant items for the sale are asked to bring them April 6th and 7th to the library between the hours of 8 a.m.-5 p.m. No clothing items accepted for the sale.

Entergy head sends letter to MVE 5th grader

Representatives of Entergy were at Mauriceville Elementary on Tuesday, March 24, to present Cody Steiert, a fifth grade student in Mary Kay Berndt’s Language Arts class, with a written response from Leo P. Denault, Chairman and CEO of Entergy. Cody and his classmates wrote letters to individuals of their choice culminating a business letter-writing lesson. The student letters went to a variety of people from the  President of the UnitedStates, to the Department of Defense, NFL players,

Elegant dinner at Mauriceville Elementary

Melissa Brewer’s class t Mauriceville Elementary wrapped up their “Fill the Bucket With Love” unit with an elegant dinner on Tuesday,  March 24. The students received a certificate of excellence for the completion of their work and celebrated by dressing up for the day and having a  ice noon meal.

Babin breakfast meet and greet draws a crowd

A standing room only crowd listened intently Friday morning as Representative Dr. Brian Babin spoke on issues facing the 114th US Congress. More than 50 attendees crowded into Woogies sandwich shop for the early morning meet and greet to hear Congressman Babin’s views and address many problems and concerns he shared with attendees. Babin stressed the need for less government interference, less taxation, a strong military and a return of traditional American values, themes that resonated with his audience.

There could be an increase in traffic at Vidor restaurants and businesses this weekend as the 2015 Bassmaster Elite Series Fishing Tournament returns to the Sabine River in Orange County this weekend.

National Merit finalist at LCM

Aaron D. Rose, a senior at Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School, has been named a finalist in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program. According to LCM High School Principal Dr. Terri Estes, “Beyond being academicallygifted and working across the campus to be a leader in our academic UIL competitions, he is a true gentleman. It’s just amazing, the character that young man shows in everything he does.”
