New Hats

Tuesday, February 24, 2015 was a very cold day. The students in Mrs. Roche’s Kindergarten class at Pine Forest Elementary in Vidor stayed warm despite the cold. Student, Jasper Long’s great-grandmother lovingly handmade each student a hat to keep each child warm. The students were overjoyed by this random act of kindness. Everyone left with a warm body and warm heart! VISD names Teresa Parker Employee of the Month

Vidor Junior High’s Teresa Parker was named VISD Employee of the Month for February. She has thirteen years of teaching under her belt, and before that she was a point man with a SWAT team for the Department of Energy, worked for Governor Ann Richards, and interned for David Bernsen. She chose teaching as her calling and makes every day in her classroom an adventure. She is a special education/self-contained classroom teacher and has been at VJHS for eleven years. She is dedicated to teaching students with profound learning problems, extending her care to the welfare of these students as individuals, working tirelessly to help them reach their highest potential. Mrs. Parker is an avid Pirate fan who can be seen dressed as a Pirate on Homecoming.

Boomtown Music and Film Festival seeking volunteers

Boomtown Music and Film Festival will hold an open meeting Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 6 p.m. at The Beaumont Art League to recruit and educate volunteers for the festival, which is scheduled for Feb. 26-28. The Beaumont Art League is located at 2675 Gulf Street. “We are so excited to put on BoomFest for the eighth year in a row in Beaumont,” Sheena McCrary, volunteer coordinator said. “It is a grassroots, local project that requires dedicated volunteers in order to make this festival the best we’ve ever presented.”

Band students earn first division medals

Students from the Vidor High School Band earned 121 first division medals at the UIL Solo- Ensemble contest held at Lumberton High School Friday, February 6, 2015. Soloists qualifying for the UIL Texas State Solo-Ensemble Contest are Zach Domec, piano and alto saxophone; Dakota Ard, tenor saxophone; Ana Plake, flute; and Hannah Hudgins, percussion.
