Annual Community Trash-Off announced

It’s that time of year again! The 21st Annual Community Trash-Off is scheduled for Saturday, February 13, 2016, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the City of Orange Boat Ramp, located on Simmons Drive in Orange, Texas. This year’s Community Trash-Off is presented by INVISTA and hosted by Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center in collaboration with the City of Orange.

Blue Santa Toy Drive at VHS

The Vidor High School Career and Technical Education Criminal Justice Club sponsored the Blue Santa Toy drive in December . The Vidor FFA and Yearbook classes helped out as well , bringing in a plethora of cool gifts. They were able to donate many boxes of toys to the Vidor PD. Mrs. Tammie Landry, CJ Sponsor; CJ Club members Andrew Seals, Pearce Bland, Jarod Shivers, Clayton West, and Samantha Gall.

Stark Museum of Art invites families to make Art After Dark

The Stark Museum of Art is excited to welcome families to make art after dark during Third Thursdays Art Night, Thursday, January 21, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Admission is free for all Orange County public, private or home school students, grades pre-K-12, wearing school colors or spirit wear. Admission for Adults (18-64) is $6; Seniors, (65 or over) $5; and children, 3 years and under, are admitted free. Stark Cultural Venues Members will also receive free admission.

LCM Board recognizes students, faculty

Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD’s Board of Trustees were recognized by Superintendent Dr. Pauline Hargrove and administrators during the regular January Board of Trustees meeting. Dr. Hargrove asked the administrative team to share one word that they feel described the Board. Those included supportive, committed, loyal, dedicated, servanthood, caring, empowering, devoted, intelligent, optimistic, understanding, and a two-word phrase…common sense.

TOPS Awards

TOPS held awards for the month of Dec. and Ms TOPSI was Glenda. Ms KOPSI was Janis. TOPS is a non profit weight loss organization that is open to men and women. Meetings are held on Mondays at First Methodist Church. Weigh in begins at 5:30, meetings are at 7. For more info contact Stephanie at 550-8598

LCM Claims Medals

Eight Little Cypress-Mauriceville art students of Betsy Kaufman submitted paintings for the Houston Livestock and Rodeo Art Contest this past weekend. Of the submissions, three seniors received medals for their work.Sundas Imtiaz took best of show for her painting, “Boot Scootin’.” Brooke Tant and Veronica Ibarra both won Gold Medals. Brooke’s painting is titled, “Bovine Beauty” and Veronica’s is “Desert Gabriel.”

Vidor Represented at RYLA

Attending Rotary Youth Leadership Awards this past weekend were Charlie Huang, Emma Huebel, Alexus Franks, and Mykailyn Harbison. They are pictured with President Elect Tim Andrews. The students heard from Rotarians and Rotaractors about trust, kindness, and friendship, and learned leadership skills at the camp.

Itty Bitty Story Time

Vidor Public Library held Itty Bitty Story Time on Thursday, January 7, 2016. Program Coordinator Megan Ridlespurge read New York Times bestseller “Dragons Love Tacos” by Adam Rubin. The audience learned why dragons love tacos and not spicy salsa. The children made paper dragons for the craft.
