Help keep the arts alive in Southeast Texas!

As the Lutcher Theater prepares for the 2015- 16 Season, the Lutcher Theater Service Guild is seeking individuals interested in volunteering their time and talents to help promote and support the arts and the Lutcher in our community. This season’s membership drive is to be held Thursday, August 6th, from 5:30-7:00 pm on the Lutcher Theater third floor lobby. The drive is open to the public and all are invited for a hot dog supper and information about committees and membership responsibilities.

Division Winner

Kenneth Connor got division winner for Texas recently at an IRD held in Reno, Nevada. Pictured with him was his wife Joann. TOPS is a nonprofit organization open to men and women meetings are held on Mondays at the United Methodist Church at 7:00 p.m. with weigh ins starting at 5:30 p.m. For more information contact Stephanie at 550-8598.

LCM teens tackle real world issues at Leadership Training

Texas teens across the state gained skills in goal setting, team building, problem solving,  and project planning though interactive methods at Texas Association of Student  Council (TASC) Leadership Workshops. Sarah Gonzalez,  Krystal Lester, John Michael Gonzalez, Payton Bickham,  Nicolas Wilson, and Jennifer Ellis represented Little Cypress-  Mauriceville High School as delegates to the workshop at Stephen F. Austin State  University in Nacogdoches, Texas July 11- 15. During five days of rigorous training and project based learning, they gained the  tools and knowledge necessary to improve student council effectiveness in their local  school.

Certified Food Manager Course set for August 12

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Orange County Extension Agent Fallon Foster will be offering the 2 day certification course  followed by the exam on the 3rd day. The Course will be held August 10-11, 9 am to 4 pm and testing August 12, 9 am to 12 noon at the Extension office.

Final Summer Program

The Vidor Public Library held the final 2015 Summer Reading Program “Every Hero Has A Story” on Wednesday, July 8, 2015. Andy Gardner and his  assistant Beverly Ketchum with Artto- Go from the Art Museum of Southeast  Texas talked to the audience  about the museum. The children made super hero tote bags for the craft. Children  completing 20 or more books by Friday July  10, 2015 will be eligible to attend the Grand Finale on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at  the Vidor Public Library starting at 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Summer Camp Fun

Children in VISD Community Education summer camps had fun last week making things. Wild With Wood saw kids making airplanes, wooden Texas flags, and wood-burned photo holders. In cooking camp, children made deviled eggs and cakes as well as a huge array of main dish items.
