14th annual Nightingale Experience offers first-hand nursing opportunities

The 14th annual Nightingale Experience will be held on June 10-11, 2016. Forty-five high school students will visit Lamar University’s JoAnne Gay Dishman Department of Nursing and Christus Hospital - St. Elizabeth to learn about the nursing profession. The Nightingale Experience is a two-day event for high school students who are interested in nursing as a career choice.

Food Services

The Food Services managers from each campus were recognized for all receiving perfect scores on their health inspections for the fifty year. They are pictured in the top photo, left to right, with Child Nutrition Director Gracie Clark, Erin Fowler (VMS), Sandy Byers (VJHS), Carol Darwin (VHS), Terri Lewis (OF), Jodie Marshall (PF) and Cindy Henry (VE). Having perfect attendance and being recognized at the annual Child Nutrition banquet were Tammy Smith and Virginia Low, left to right in the bottom photo. Flag Day Breakfast

The Vidor Rotary Club will join with the Vidor Lions Club and Vidor Community Rotaract to put out flags at the Veterans Park again next Tuesday, June 14. But this time the Rotary Club is also inviting the community to come out for a bite of breakfast, hosted by the club and Legacy Healthcare. Weather permitting, breakfast will be served outdoors at the Veterans Park. Guests can visit the park, eat, and learn about the work of Rotary, Lions, the United Christian Care Center, and Legacy. The breakfast will be held at Veterans Park from 7:00-8:30 a.m.

Adult Studio Workshop and CREATE! Workshop

ORANGE — Curious about how a work of art is made? Join in the fun at the next Adult Studio Workshop: Acrylic Still Life Painting on June 4, 2016 and learn to see art through the artist’s eyes! This workshop’s special guest artist will be Stephanie Garza. She received her Bachelor of Science in graphic design and teacher certification from Lamar University. Garza has been an art teacher for 15 years and has been teaching painting classes at Painting with a Twist for 5 years.

LCM names “Of the Year” employees

At the Annual End of Year Celebration event, Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD honored staff who had completed service years in increments of 5 and its retirees. Others who were recognized were the staff members “Of the Year” who were selected by their co-workers. This year’s Teachers of the Year included Shannon Blankenship – Mauriceville Elementary, Heidi Strandberg – Mauriceville Middle, Billy Gay Davis – LCM High School, Michael Corman – Little Cypress Junior High, Stacey Arabie – Little Cypress Elementary and Brenda Jones – Little Cypress Elementary.

Getting Ready

About to be graduates of the Vidor High School Class of 2016 anxiously await word that their graduation ceremony is about to begin as they check their caps and gowns and exchange last minute words in the dressing rooms of the Lamar University Montagne Center just before the Vidor High School Class of 2016 Commencement ceremonies were about to begin last Friday night.

Lutcher Theater Announces 2016-17 Season

Donation to Deweyville

Pine Forest Elementary first grade classes sold lemonade at track and field. They were able to raise enough money to donate $500 to Deweyville’s elementary classes. Pictured with Deweyville’s Principal, Ms. LaJuan Addison, are Brody Stankovich, Payton Byrd, Ella Spencer, Dawson Collins, and Kyra Sims.
