VISD names Christy Bailey Employee of the Month

Vidor High School’s Christy Bailey was named Vidor Independent School District’s Employee of the Month for February in the Monday, February 15 Board of Trustees meeting. She was nominated by Suzette Ross, who says, “Mrs. Bailey has been fabulous getting me set up to teach mainstream this school year.

1920s Day: It’s the bee’s knees

ORANGE — Travel back in time to the 1920s at The W.H. Stark House on March 5 from 9am-2pm for “1920s Day: It’s the Bee’s Knees!” Connect the Stark House and W.H. Stark Family to a decade of their history by exploring the art, culture, and economy of the 1920s with hands-on, history based activities and a specialized tour.

Brigs Visit Nursing Home

The Vidor High School Brigadettes made Gingerbread houses with their Brig sister to take to the nursing home. Their houses were first judged by some teachers and then taken to Oakwood Manor for the residents to enjoy. While visiting Oakwood Manor, the Brigs performed hand routines from football season to Christmas music for the residents to enjoy.

Itty Bitty Story Time

The Vidor Public Library held Itty Bitty Story Time on Thursday, February 18, 2016. Program Coordinator Megan Ridlespurge read “QPootle5” by Nick Butterworth. The children made paper spaceships for the craft.

LCM Students Place

Two Little Cypress-Mauriceville students placed in the recent Texas Alliance of Minority Engineers (TAME) competition. Sophomore Ashley Knight took Second Place in Algebra II, Third Place in Chemistry and Second Place in Group Engineering Design Challenge. Julia Iles, LCM freshman, placed First in Geometry, Second in Biology and Judges Choice in Group Engineering Design Challenge. According to Laura Gestal, the Coach, all students who received finished First in each event, and some who received Second, will go to state. Students are, from left, Ashley Knight and Julia Iles.

Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School’s Prose and Poetry team competed in the Port Neches Groves meet on Saturday, Febraury 13. Individual standings include.

Stark Reading Contest winners at VHS named

ORANGE — Vidor High School students Nick Lewis and Hannah Odom earned first place in Declamation and Interpretive Reading, respectively, at the school-level finals of the 112th Miriam Lutcher Stark Contest in Reading and Declamation,  a scholarship program sponsored by the Nelda C. and H.J. Lutcher Stark Foundation.

Get charcoal crazy! Make Art After Dark at Third Thursdays Art Night

ORANGE — The Stark Museum of Art once again welcomes families to make art after dark at Third Thursdays Art Night, February 18, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Admission is free for all Orange County public, private or home school students, grades pre- K-12, wearing school colors or spirit wear. Admission for Adults (18-64) is $6; Seniors,  (65 or over) $5; and children,

Team Defeats Kelly

Congrats to the VHS Channel 6 Academic Challenge Team for defeating Kelly High School with a score of 190-155. The program will air February 27th at 5:00 pm. on KFDM TV. They will now advance to level two on February 13. Team members are Stephanie Licon, Cierra Singleton, and Tanner Marks. Team sponsor, not pictured, is Dr. Chad Vandevender, VHS teacher.
