Operation River Rescue

The congregation of the First Pentecostal Church of Vidor has launched a food and supply collection drive for flood victims that they are calling Operation River Rescue. The Congregation plans to collect canned goods, water, cleaning supplies, diapers, baby formula, personal hygiene items and other supplies that might be needed by those whose homes are flooded.

Congratulations to Stark Reading contest winners at LCM High School

ORANGE — Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School students Vincent Hale and Connor Alexander earned first place in Declamation and Interpretive Reading, respectively, at the school-level finals of the 112th Miriam Lutcher Stark Contest in Reading and Declamation, a scholarship program sponsored by the Nelda C. and H.J. Lutcher Stark Foundation. On Sunday, March 6, 2016, Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School students competed in the local-level contest, which was coordinated by Melanie Claybar, Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School teacher and school director for the Stark Reading Contest.

Pillars of the Community

Recognized as Pillars of the Community in Vidor Rotary Club’s Monday meeting were left to right Eddie Wedgeworth, Keith McDonald, and Jeanne Taylor, Director of Transportation for Vidor ISD. They have all been instrumental in the green bus program from the beginning, and are happy to help with the bus maintenance and running. President Elect Tim Andrews honored them with certificates and books dedicated on the bus in their honor.

Dr. Suess Birthday

In addition to Vidor schools, Sonic celebrated Dr. Suess’ birthday last Wednesday. Employees dressed as Suess characters and read his books to children. There were also coloring pages and other fun activities.

VMS #BOOMSAUCE

VMS Principal Mr. Jason Yeaman got cold water dumped on him by assistant principals Mrs. Lamey and Mrs. Patterson in recognition of technology funds raised this week by selling VMS #BOOMSAUCE bracelets at lunch! Yeaman says, “We strive to bring our BOOMSAUCE daily to VMS and making sure we are striving for greatness! BOOMSAUCE:The highest possible degree of amazing and perfection, a billion times stronger than ‘awesome sauce.’”

Big Bug Project

On February 22, 2016, educators from the Stark Museum of Art and Shangri-La provided the Kindergarten students of Pine Forest Elementary with an informative, fun, and hands-on educational experience. Students had a lesson on basic color theory. Then they collaboratively mixed primary colors to make a secondary color, and then learned to tint the color using white.

Monster Truck

Marten Holeman of Vidor Elementary entered a drawing and won a visit from Monster Nation for his school . The students enjoyed seeing the monster truck. Marten is in fourth grade . He is shown with his mother and father, Becky and Jeremy Perrio.
