Dignitaries were on hand Tuesday for the official groundbreaking of the new $18 million Oak Forest Elementary School. The new school built on the Highway 12 site of its namesake destroyed by Hurricane Harvey flooding in 2017.

Vidor ISD Superintendent Dr. Jay Killgo said “contractors estimate 14 months to complete a campus build. I would to see us in after Christmas break next year. We are excited to see the progress and look forward to having our students back in a great facility."
