A “Historic Day” for Orange County

Orange County Judge John Gothia said it was a historic day for Orange County as representatives of federal, state, and local governments gathered at the Orange County Expo Center Monday to witness the signing of documents formalizing their partnership that was forged to protect Orange County by constructing a miles long levee and gate system to hold back storm surge and associated pumps that will help inland flooding drain more quickly.

“The Orange County portion of the project will protect citizens, the economy and the environment from storm surges and flooding,” said Orange County Judge John Gothia. “I am grateful for the collaboration of all the governmental organizations from the local to the federal groups that have worked together to bring this project to this stage.”

Many speakers cited the unparalleled cooperation among the various agencies that made the progress possible.
