Pirates to face old and new foes following realignment to 4A

It’s now official, the 2020-2021 Vidor Pirates will compete in football District 10-4A against some old and new foes while all other Pirate sports will battle in District 22-4A.

Vidor Head Coach Jeff Mathews was not surprised by the news, flawlessly predicting how the new district lineup would shake out as soon as it was confirmed Vidor would be dropping to the 4A ranks. And even though the district lineup was no surprise to him, Mathews and his coaching staff are excited by the opportunities the drop from 5A to 4A classification brings to the table.

After years of competing against much larger enrollment schools, Vidor now finds itself in the “big school” role, but the competition is expected to be just as challenging.

“We are excited about the opportunity,” Mathews said. “We have been the small fish in a big pond for awhile. The competition and coaching will still be as tough as ever but it will sure feel good to be one of the biggest fish in 4A Division 1 football.”

The 2020-2021 pre-season schedule is:

Week 1 Silsbee
