Businessman John Nickum was selected by the members of the Vidor Chamber of Commerce to be their 2020 Vidor Chamber Member of the Year last week at the Chamber Annual Banquet. Mr. Nickum is an insurance agent with State Farm® Insurance with his office in uptown Vidor. He was recently re-elected as Vice President of the Vidor Chamber of Commerce Board

Former City of Vidor City Manager Mike Kunst was visibly surprised when the Vidor Chamber of Commerce announced that he had been selected by the Chamber membership to be their 2020 Vidor Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year. During the Vidor Chamber’s Annual membership banquet, this year named “A Taste of Vidor”, the president of the Chamber’s Board of Directors Atasha Quebedeaux, presented the honor saying, “This year’s Citizen of the Year is very important to the Chamber and the “Fresh Start” that we started a couple of years ago. Without him, the “Fresh Start” initiative wouldn’t have happened. He has also done a lot for Vidor and now he is going to do a lot for Orange, even though he left us for Orange. But without him, this Chamber would not be where it is today; without Mike Kunst.

According to Charlotte Ragan, a member of the Board of Directors of the Vidor Chamber of Commerce, Mike Kunst was one of several citizens of Vidor who was nominated by the entire membership of the Chamber. When the nominations were complete, a ballot was sent to all of the Chamber membership with all of the names of the nominees for 2020 Citizen of the Year.

According to Kari Milligan, Vidor Chamber Secretary, when those ballots were returned, Mike Kunst’ name was, by a wide margin, the most voted for nominee.
