Repair of Gould Community Center to begin

Inside of the Raymond Gould Park Community Center, all of the furniture and appliances have been stacked in the center of the hall and covered with a tarp in anticipation of the contractor beginning repairs to the flood damaged building on December 30th.

Once again the Orange County Raymond Gould Park Community Center on Claiborne St. near I-10 and the Vidor Lions Club Veteran’s Memorial Park, took on water during a heavy rain and flood associated with a tropical storm. Tropical Storm Imelda put some twelve inches of floodwater inside of the Community Center and the UTMB Immunization Clinic which shares the same county building in Raymond Gould Park in Vidor.

Within a day or two of Imelda’s passing, the Gould Community Center, which had just been repaired and refurbished some two years earlier following Tropical Storm Harvey flooding, was beset by a demolition crew of County Maintenance Department workers who worked quickly to cut out the bottom twenty-four inches of sheetrock and the insulation behind the wet sheetrock. County crews applied a coating of anti-mold treatment and set up fans to dry out both the Community Center and the UTMB Immunization clinic, which shares the same building
