Pirates face Panthers

The Vidor Pirates (0-1) will face the 1-1 Conroe Caney Creek Panthers Friday in their first home game of the season. The occasion will also mark the first game held on the recently installed artificial turf surface.

Both teams will face lot of unknowns when they meet.

“They have a new coach,” said Vidor Head Coach Jeff Mathews.

CC Panther Head Coach Ned Barrier came to Conroe after three seasons at 2A Wallis Brazos, where he compiled a 16-17 record.

Not having a history with the Pirates, some educated guesses have to be made.

“It’s a mystery what they are going to play against us. We prepared for 3-4 different defensive schemes,” Mathews explained. “That’s what we usually do, and we usually get it right.
