An Entergy Texas lineman works to install a recloser on an electrical feeder utility pole at an undisclosed location. These reclosers have the capability of resetting themselves when a temporary problem interrupts power distribution. Reclosers will be installed on Entergy Texas electricity feeder lines near I-10, Highway 12 and Texla Road.

Entergy Texas is in the process of installing new devices on feeder lines that can temporarily open an electrical feeder line when a problem that would normally short circuit the line occurs until the problem clears and then the device closes the electrical feeder line to restore power. Five of these new devices called “Reclosers” will be installed in the Entergy Texas Vidor service area to help reduce power outages.

According to Kacee Kirschvink, Entergy Texas spokesperson, “Entergy Texas is targeting areas that have experienced multiple outages and is working to improve the system by installing new devices to help keep the power flowing.

“About 50 of the devices, called reclosers, are being installed throughout the Entergy Texas service area. Reclosers are essentially circuit breakers that temporarily open a line when momentary problems occur, such as an animal or tree branch falls on the line.

“This “sectionalizing” of the power grid helps prevent additional damage to equipment and reduces the frequency and length of outages as well as the number of customers affected,” said Kirschvink.
