Ivan Croak Field facelift underway

Photos taken May 16 show both a bird’s eye and ground eye view of work done on Ivan Croak Field since Monday. Soil removal, drainage work, including adding 5-6 inches of gravel, and leveling will take the most time with the turf going in last. The new surface is expected to be ready in time for two-a-day football practice beginning August 5.

For more than 50 years, Vidor Pirate athletes, Brigadettes, the Mighty Pirate Marching Band and their faithful fans have watched their favored group through triumph and defeat, rain or shine.

Some changes have been made over that half century, wooden bleachers gave way to aluminum, cinder tracks have been updated, lighting has been improved, but one thing remained constant, the on-the-field action was on natural grass, but now that is changing.
